Is there a safe way to clean these? And will cleaning them change the taste or my dogs liking to them?

Answer by HTNDACHJan 22, 2025
You can throw them in the top rack of the dishwasher w/o detergent to sanitize. You can throw them in a load of laundry. You can dip them in a bucket of hot water and soap or bleach but rinse thoroughly. Yes, there may be some flavor loss but you can add back by boiling on the stop in a pot of broth or stock.

What are these actually made of? Are they edible toys and digestible? Please advise thank you

Answer by ChewyNov 23, 2021
These Benebone chew toys are made with USA-sourced nylon. The toys are not edible. This chew toy should be replaced after damage or significant wear. Rice-sized flakes are normal, but if it looks like larger chunks are about to come off, it’s time to replace.

Can you make a dent in these when you press with your fingernail? Or are they harder?

Answer by ChewyDec 01, 2021
Benebone chew toys are made of super-strong nylon and real flavors, a fingernail would not be able to press into the chew.

Is there any real fish in the salmon bone?

Answer by ChewyDec 08, 2021
Inspired by the protein of the sea, the Fishbone is flavored with real Jack Salmon, so your dog will go nuts for the smell of it. The nice thing is, you won’t notice.

My dog used to enjoy these since she was a puppy. It wasn’t until a recent trip to the vet that I learned these (and others like it) are actually unsafe for dogs. She cracked her tooth chewing on these and had to get it extracted. I learned that the rule of thumb is if it is too hard to indent with your fingernail, it’s too hard for your dog. Also it should be soft enough to not hurt if you hit it against your own bone (like your foot or knuckle etc). Sadly I wouldn’t recommend these to anyone as they are too hard and didn’t know how common it is for people (like myself) to not know and have to get their dog’s tooth extracted.

Two Bulldogs - Not Destroyed Yet...

Very impressed so far...had it for two weeks now, there is normal wear and tear on the ends but the benebones are not destroyed. My bulldogs love to chew and destroy. We used to have antlers but they cause shards and are becoming too hard for my older bulldog; plus by the second week they would be half their original size and then become a choking hazard. These benebones are great for tough chewers. My male bulldog loves going to sleep with a toy in his mouth for comfort and we've spotted him multiple times with a benebone in his mouth. We now have six of them in the house and they chew on all of them. Thank you!

I ordered these for my friend's 4 dogs. They loved all but one. The maplewood one is shaped awkwardly and not easy to chew, even for her large dogs. One of them finally chewed it but only if my friend held it for her. I will definitely buy these toys again, but most like the singles instead of this 4 pack.

We adopted a dog from a rescue. I went crazy buying him toys etc. He is 62 lbs and I bought the Beneone Multipack. He liked them. A couple days later I took him to Vet for his first checkup. Without me asking the Vet said do NOT use Nylabone or anything like it. I told her I already bought the Benebones. She said they will cause his teeth to break. So that was wasted money. I don't know why they sell these products.

These are holding up REALLY well with my VERY aggressive chewer! He has two of the 4 out in different rooms, and the edges are getta bit frayed but still well within safe limits, and he absolutely loves them! Will definitely be ordering more when these get too worn out, but it looks like it's going to take a while. I think they're a good value, too, $10 each is quite reasonable for such a durable chew!

I bought these because I have 2 very chewy dogs. There aren’t many toys they can’t get through. within 3 days both dogs started vomiting and had diarrhea. Wasn’t consistent but enough that after the “round” both of them had a day or so, then subsided. It started again I called the vet and went through the normal questions, did i change their food, did they get into anything, anything different. it was my son who thought of the toys. Took them away and haven’t had any issues since. Not sure what it is about these, just becareful.

Benebone

These are great. There was a variety of shapes and I had enough for all the dogs in my house. They don't tear up easily so I'll be able to use them again and again

Good for Pitties

I have two pitties and Boston terrier, all super chewers. They love these bones, so when I saw them in the multi pack I just had to get em. The hounds were thrilled

They're chewing on them right now. They go from one to another. All day, every day. They're good bones for strong chewers. They last a long time.
