Is one side supposed to be white and soft?

Answer by ChewyAug 18, 2025
The treats are soft to touch like Crisco, and we would suggest refrigerating or freezing to make it easier to remove from the tray.

I have purchased this name brand before at a local well known store that sells foods and products for animals. I purchased this product through chewy because it was easier for me to have it delivered to my house instead of going out to buy it to the fact that I am handicapped. I was very excited to get it to be able to put it out for my birds. I love to watch them eat, and play in their water. I have now had this product hanging for the birds and it is really barely been touched within the time that I received it until now, which is probably about a month or so. Looking at it has very little seed compared to the others that I have purchased in the past. And has more fillers than ever. I would not recommend this product at all. It definitely was not worth the money. And now I’m stuck with all of the rest of them which not even the squirrels are trying to get at it. I’m very disappointed. (as you can see in the picture, they have barely packed at the suit cake and it’s been over a month since it’s been out there. I’m very disappointed.)

The title sums it up. However in hot weather, I have toput this suet in my upright suet feeder instead of my upside down suet holder, because this C&S suet melts really fast in the heat and falls through all the holes to the ground. I have to put Heath's bird suet in the upside down feeder instead, which the birds also love, and it's more compacted and stays solid long enough in the heat for the birds to polish it off beofre it melts in the heat too.

I didn't like these. They didn't have as many seeds as other types I have bought. All the beautiful variety I had with another brand instantly disappeared. Nobody wanted this except woodpeckers. They made a home nearby and we could hear them pecking our house and nearby trees. After a few weeks I got rid of them and threw them all away. After a week or two, went back to another brand and had all the same variety as before. We have had a woodpecker now only rarely, and they didn't establish residence nearby. I can't recommend this. I don't know if anybody would like a woodpecker to set up shop near their home, but literally no other bird wanted this. In NJ by the shore.

Unfortunately the neither the birds or squirrels like it, there is a top layer of fat making for a sloppy opening and while it is hot here this melts fairly quickly. The other C&S suet I usually get is preferable for the birds and squirrels here. It is far less messy and true to its advertisement it is no-melt. My mistake in ordering the wrong suet, while this may be fine for others it is not for me.

Used for years great for woodpecker perchless feeders

I'm in IL. I spread this brand of suet into a no perch woodpecker feeder. The kind with 2 slabs screwed together with about a half inch space between. it's greasy but I use a plastic putty knife every day, no mess. The plain white suet on top spreads so easily summer and winter. All birds that can hang on or hover eagerly eat it.

I’m assuming there’s a level of heat damage or spoilage here because I have out suet blocks year round and the birds normally love them. They won’t touch these- the fat has all separated to look like they are coated in lard on one side. Back to buying them at the local store so at least they get eaten!
