Will your test show if a dog is part coyote?

The Embark Dog DNA Test Kit tests for over 200 dog breeds, even wolf, coyote, and village dog ancestry. You can find a full list of breeds on the manufacturer's website.

Is MDR1 included in this test?

My four dogs (and whatever foster dogs we have at the time) all drink from the same two water bowls. (They are BIG pots). Will the potential mixing of saliva from the water affect the results? Or, if is, for how long before the test should I withhold water?

We recommend waiting at least an hour after the pup has eaten, shared a water bowl, or shared a toy with another dog before swabbing, in order to ensure that the sample is not contaminated. Additionally, we advise separating the dogs during this time.

does this test show if your dog has degenerative myelopathy

This test kit will test if your pet is pre-disposed to degenerative myelopathy. Please note that these mutations are reported to have incomplete penetrance: that is, while a dog with two copies of this mutation has a much greater chance of developing DM than a dog with one copy of the mutation, or none at all, other genetic and environmental factors will also contribute to whether your dog develops DM.

It took me over 20 tries to activate my test on Aug 20, 2025 and after sending it via the USPS mail 2.5 weeks ago I have heard NOTHING!!! I sent an email To Embark And Crickets! No response! I can see why you have marked these down, but the test are NOT even worth $5 at tnis point horrible, horrible experience! I bought this test some time ago and was unable to use it on Ghost or Gucci because Gucci bites and Ghost would havecnothing to do with me messing with his mouth due to a bad experience with Vet toothpaste. So I decided to get Ollie’s bread and health results even though he is AKC registered.

Guess I didn’t realize that meant giving a percent chance of developing a type of allergy instead of breaking down what allergens specifically. Posting to give awareness for anyone else buying for this purpose.

Never ran a dna test

My previous dog (a female min pin mix) died 2 years ago. I adopted a new senior Mini Schauzer mix. I did the testing sample on him myself and mailed it in as directed

My previous dog (a female min pin mix) died 2 years ago. I adopted a new senior Mini Schauzer mix. I did the testing sample on him myself and mailed it in as directed. The results said he is a min pin/bichon frise’ mix. What? Not even close to my male Schnauzer. Apparently they didn’t run a dna test, just took the old info off my old Chewy profile. Total ripoff. I am sure there are more ethical tests available out there.

When I tried to contact them to inquire, it is mission impossible actually speaking to someone. Online chat is chatbots, no response to emails, and when you try to call them, they re-direct you to chat or email. An endless loop. Super frustrating.

Took a week to get to the ‘lab’ I didn’t get a notification that the results were in I was just constantly checking the site to see. They said my dogs 100% pit. Which I guess isn’t too far of a stretch although not sure how much I truly believe he’s a “pure”. Not that it matters but was definitely cool to find out.

I was concerned that our pup was going to have nothing to do with the swabbing but she did great. We did it just before bedtime she had already settled down for the day. The kit gave very easy instructions to follow and included the return envelope. We continued to receive updates while her sample was being reviewed. We were convinced our rescue was going to come back with several breeds but she only came back with 2, Labrador (70%) and Cane Corso. We also received information on a condition that we should bring up with our vet which we would not have otherwise known about so we are very thankful that we can address this before it becomes an issue for her. I definitely recommend this product.
