Does the post tobble over? The base doesn't look very wide and my cat usually hobbles the smaller scratching post.. just don't want to come in down on her if it's heavier than the smaller one.

We own the same type of scratcher by SmartCat and no, it doesn't tip over. (I checked the dimensions, and this brand is actually a tiny bit bigger). The base is sturdy, and our cats can stretch up to their full length to use it. We were having a problem with one of our cats using our recliners to scratch, so we have a couple of these types of scratchers around our house. They don't use the top as a perch because they prefer their tree for that purpose.

Is there a refill fiber mat for this scratching post? My cats have completely demolished the one they have but the wooden part is fine. They all loved it to death! It is sturdy and I need to find a new mat for it!

At this time, the manufacturer does not have replacement scratch mats for individual sale.

Does the sisal material come off over time, collecting on the floor at the base of the post?

With continuous scratching, the sisal rope can start to come undone over time. It would also depend one the determination and strength your pet has while scratching.

What is the post and stand/perch beneath the sisal and carpet made of?

The scratching rope is sisal. Bases are made out of particle board. The faux fleece fabric is made of polyester.

Sturdy

I bought this to replace the cuter (imo) cactus scratcher I had. This one is taller, and my cat seemed like she wanted more vertical space to scratch. It remains to be seen whether she will use it beyond the initial scratch. It’s possible I will have to cover it in sisal rope instead of this woven version, but it was a reasonable price either way. The platform & top are both thick & heavy duty. I took off a star however, because I am sensitive to chemicals & it is giving me issues. The carpeted areas felt filmy, and I had to scrub them with a damp rag & alcohol to try to clean it off. I washed my hands several times after this, again, trying to get the film off. It also came with a strong smell. Not unexpected, but I recommend airing it out after assembly if possible. My partner even commented on the smell, and he usually doesn’t notice. Aside from those issues, it’s extremely sturdy & heavy duty. My one, moderately -sized cat will be fully supported.

We chose this item as a our cats' scratching post at a secondary home due to its reasonable cost combined with its evident quality of construction. (By contrast, per reviews, many of the other posts, even those priced higher, fall apart quite soon.) Indeed, this post will not fall apart soon at all, if only because our cats won't use it! We put catnip on the soft carpeted base, which they liked a lot, as well as on the sisal scratching surface. But neither one (of our two 16-year-old cats, who use their home carpeted "tree" a LOT) has ever tried to stretch up and scratch on the post. Our daughter-in-law said she'd also got the identical one for their cats, with the same expectation--and same RESULT: the cats (and theirs are both younger and not littermates) simply are not interested in it,a but prefer to scratch cardboard or other fabric textures. (We may try to tie some carpet around a portion of it to get them started, but for now, we're thinking our own fulfilled preference for quality at a good price led us to making an essentially useless-to-us purchase).

Now the Cats loved it because of the height also. They can fully stretch. Despite the reviews, I just can’t recommend based on my experience. And maybe it’s just a fluke. I don’t know. The base is very firm and heavy. No issues with tipping over. But customer service as always, was outstanding. I have been purchasing from Chewy for a lonnngggg time. Service has always been great. Prices on some items are a bit pricey, but in general, pretty competitive.

This scratcher is in a different league from the ones you get from grocery stores, etc., it's more like a piece of fur-niture than an accessory. But that's a good thing. It is very durable, I think it would withstand all but the most committed scratchers. It was certainly tough enough for my cats. The height is good too, and the pedestal on top gives them a chance to be "up" and survey their domain. Such a good idea. For very active 10 lb+ cats, you may find that the base of the post is juuuuust a little too light to withstand someone launching themselves off the top of it or bull-rushing headfirst into it (why, though, guys?) but I just added one of my 5lb free weights to the bottom (which was fine, it's finally getting some use this way) and that fixed it.

There is nothing to not like about this item. Our cats love it (even our senior cat loves to use it to stretch and claw it while stretching. It's a great buy on Chewy and worth every penny. We have it situated by our bed so he will stand on it sometimes but that's only because he can walk onto it from the bed :) We have bought this a couple of times just to refresh it but it's very sturdy (including the sissel part) and lasts a long time. I don't think you'll see a cat just jump up on top of it as in the photo. It's really meant to be a great scratching post. We will use a wand toy with our cats and play with them by dangling the wand toy around the sissel post and they love that, too, and will claw the post and use it that way as well.

Purchased the cream one so it blends in well & disappears with the surroundings (not a fan of gaudy cat trees and scratches). Tall enough for both my 5 y/o decent sized male cats to stand and stretch out. The post and base seem very sturdy, simple to put together in like 5 min, material on the post is thick and must allow great kitty pleasure digging claws into It vs my furniture (TYL)! This does not tip over when they are getting crazy on it and they are rough and feisty cats. very satisfied w my purchase!

Well made and a nice looking cat scratch post. The sisal rug type fiber is strong and my 3 cats cant fray the material. Other posts result in hair like disallowed fibers sticking out all over when scratched and my kittens chewed on them. I had to throw them out. This post remains steady and does not tip over. The platform on top is not large enough for a cat to perch on, so it serves no purpose. Overall, this product is worth the cost and should last a long time.

My cats love scratching and sharpening their claws. About 4 years ago I bought (1) of these cat towers. (And another brand) at the same time. This tower looks as good as the day I bought it and the other has fallen apart and has since been trashed. They use this tower more than the other but the other was made from lessor materials. I now have 4 of these cat scratch towers through my home. (Home office, living room, bedroom and loft) my furniture has been scratch free for 4 years and they use all 4 towers everyday !

This extra tall scratching post is very sturdy. Even my larger cats are able to stand on their back legs while scratching to their hearts content with their front paws! My cats can also jump onto the top and perch there without the scratching post over. Being a chewy owned brand, the price is less than other similar scratching posts. I highly recommend this scratching post.
