my dog is less than 20 lbs. How much of this should I give my dog.

Answer by AnneJun 24, 2025
According to the instructions: give 1 capsule for dogs weighing 10-19lb. For dogs weighing even less than that, I give them every other day.

Does this contain “other ingredients” like peppermint or lemon or other additives that are often in fish oil capsules for humans?

This capsule version seems less potent than the liquid for small dogs? The epa/dha is less and the dosing is different when figuring it out for an5 lb dog. So the capsules have more omega threes but less dha and epa?

Answer by ChewyNov 02, 2018
The Nordic Naturals oil supplement is 2.3 times more potent in EPA, DHA, and Omega-3's than these soft gels when comparing the serving size for every 20-lbs of body weight.

Is this product tested for mercury levels?

Answer by ChewyMay 25, 2018
Nordic Naturals proactively tests for mercury levels.

Love these! First, they make our dog's coat visibly shinier. We switched to the softgels from a salmon oil from another company and this is so much easier to deal with. We just plop the pills in her bowl and mix them with her food and we have no problems with her eating them, whereas the salmon oil was a pain to clean when it dripped from the bottle. Another positive is these don't need to be refrigerated and they produce the same results as fish oils we have tried previously.

My vet suggested adding an Omega 3 supplement to my dogs diet for his allergies & other beneficial reasons. After doing a lot of research & finding out that some products can easily become rancid that come in pump bottles, I chose this one because it is premium quality & derived from wild caught fish. Only the best for my Pekingese.

The vet suspected my dog had a severe skin condition called ichthyosis and recommended giving him 10 ml Nordic Naturals Liquid Fish Oil daily. The dog ate it for over a year, pour over his regular food. It was difficult to pour out the correct amount from the bottle to get exactly 10 ml without the oil dripping out of the bottle, making a mess and smelling. Eventually, my dog refused to eat anything with fish oil on it, so I stopped giving it to him. After a month, my dog’s skin started to get flaky again. Rather than try to force him to eat food with liquid fish oil, I decided to try the soft gels. They are easy to administer, and there’s no mess

I gave this to my almost 11 year old mixed breed dog. She would not take the pill even when I disguised it inside a pill pocket. I ended up cutting the tip of the pill and squeezing the oil on top of her food. She seemed to actually like it that way and licked all of the oil off the food. It seems like a great way to keep her black coat nice and shiny and her joints healthy as well. She is still very active for her age and I hope this will help in keeping her joints healthy.

this product seems to work really well and my dogs like it, but i can't help but observe that after the packaging was redesigned, each capsule has less oil in it than it did before, and the dosing instructions have changed so that each dog needs to have one more capsule than they did pre-update. pretty lousy example of shrinkflation if you ask me.
