Is this recommended by veterinarians?

Answer by MitziApr 27, 2025
Yes

Why can’t this be given with food? Is there a bad reaction if given with food?

Answer by ChewyFeb 07, 2023
The reason for not giving this supplement with food is so the Laxatone can attach is self to the hair in the stomach without any obstacles that may dilute the product. There is no bad reaction to mixing with food. It would dilute the product more and not be as effective in attaching to the hair in the stomach.

can this be given to an older 9 year old cat?

Answer by ChewyApr 09, 2018
This product can be used on cats of all ages.

where is this made?

This product contains molasses and cats hate it, one of my cats would actually shake as I held her to put it on her paw, I felt so bad, so I searched for other hair ball remedies and I found cat lax, what a difference, it contains no molasses and one of my cats eats it off my finger she loves it, my other picky one who would shake knowing she was getting the molasses now doesn’t with cat lax, even though she doesn’t lick it off my finger when I go to put it on her paw she’s not upset, I think this product is horrible and its going to make any cat unhappy due to the molasses, cat lax is what cat owners should buy for hair ball remedies, it’s a great product and most cats will probably eat it off your finger

It seems like a good product from the ingredients and reviews, but both of my cats just do not enjoy it. I tried giving them some tonight (following the instructions on the tube) and my one boy cat HATED it. When I tried to push it to him on a spoon, he smelled it from about 6 inches away and then gagged and shook spit out of his mouth along with the little bit he ate when I put it on his nose the first time. My girl cat licked off what I put on her paw, but she didn’t wanna be anywhere near it when I offered her some. Again, it might be a preference thing with my cats, but my boy cat eats almost anything we get him, and he’s never reacted to anything like that other than meds from the vet.

I have been using Laxatone for decades for all the cats that I have owned over the years. Some liked it and some didn't like it but they were all helped by it. Mia, my current cat, doesn't like it at all and it's very hard to get any into her but I keep trying.

I have been buying this product for years and my cats used to like it. Within the last 6 months, it is too much liquid and my cats wont eat it. If I try to dispense it from my finger, it runs right off. Wont buy again.

Seems to be effective

I have to put this on my cats paw and he licks it off after some grumbling. I think he likes the taste OK but he’s not going to lick it off of the end of the tube!

I have to put this on my cats paw and he licks it off after some grumbling. I think he likes the taste OK but he’s not going to lick it off of the end of the tube! He is long haired and grooms a lot so he needs this every day. If I skip a day or two he ends up barfing up a hairball.

My two female kitties willingly take hairball gels, but my 2 yr old baby boy (at 15 lb) backs away from every type and flavor I've tried like it's poison. But this one in tuna flavor--he was a bit curious, cautiously took the tiniest taste. Then another. Then he finished the dose. He's a gray tuxedo with thick plushy fur, so I'm thrilled to finally find a good hairball gel that he'll take! Thanks!

Too Sticky for Longhair Kitty!

I tried putting this on my longhair senior cat’s paws and he was just kinda annoyed by it. I mix in a small squirt with his wet food and he seems ok with it though,

This really helped our cat stop having hairballs! Seriously! She's a pretty fussy cat, always runs away from meds, but this stuff is very easy for her to take. I put small globs on the tops of her front paws right before dinner and she licks it all off. And hasn't had a hairball in weeks!
