Lovebird perches are essential to building a healthy habitat for your birds. Lovebirds use perches for resting, climbing, chewing, exercise, and play. You should offer a variety of bird perches for lovebirds to promote healthy activity and foot health in your birds including:
Choose branch-style lovebird perches of different lengths and diameters, as well as perches like swings, ladders, and bridges. Perches for lovebirds should be around ½ inch in diameter so birds can comfortably grip them. Lovebird stands and activity centers are also a great way to give your birds a place to perch and play outside of the cage.
You can find lovebird perches in a variety of foot-friendly materials, including wood, rope, natural fiber, cuttlebone, plastic, and more. Choose only perches that are chew-safe, nontoxic, and comfortable for your birds' feet, and replace them whenever they show signs of excess wear.
A perch that’s roughly half an inch in diameter is good for lovebirds. Perches with varying widths across their length—just like real branches in the wild—are often recommended for optimal foot health and exercise.
Lovebirds need at least two or three perches in their cage, although more than that is usually better. Perches in different shapes, sizes, and textures will provide variety and interest to keep your birds active and healthy. Place lovebird perches at multiple heights and include as many as you can without crowding the cage.
